The Board

Sarah Carthew - Chair
Sarah Carthew is currently Director of Marketing, Communications and Development at the University of Westminster.  She was previously Chief Executive of Richmond Music Trust, providing music education to the London Borough of Richmond.  She was appointed to the Board of MLA East of England (then EEMLAC) in 2004, becoming Chair shortly afterwards.  With twenty years' experience in both local and national musuems, she has held senior positions at both the V&A (2001-2005) and The British Museum (1995-2001).  She has been vital in significantly increasing membership for both organisations while she developed and launched Young Friends of the British Museum with its associated programme of sleepovers, lectures and Sunday Clubs in 1999.  She also has a wide range of charity experience, preparation and monitoring of budgets and is familiar with equal opportunities legislation.  She lives in the East of England.

John Alban
John Alban is County Archivist of Norfolk and Diocesan Archivist for the diocese of Norwich.  He is Chairman of the East of England Sound Archive initiative which he represents on the East of England Regional Archive Council, on which he served as Chair between 2003 and 2006.

Barry George
Barry George is Head of Libraries for Bedfordshire; East Region representative to the Society of Chief Librarians (SCL) Executive; formerly Chair of East of England Library and Information Services Development Agency (ELISA) until its demise this year.

Theresa Higgins
Theresa Higgins in a Councillor for Colchester Borough Council and for Essex County Council.  She is a Blue Badge Guide for Colchester.  She has been Cabinet Minister for Heritage and is the former Chairman of the Museums in Essex Committee.  She is a member of the Colchester Access Forum and is currently studying for British Sign Language Level 2.

Edward Lean
Ted Lean is a Director of Cambridge Centre for Sixth Form Studies, which recently converted to charitable status, and chaired the restructuring of its management, systems and process.  Formerly a lawyer, and a senior executive in an international energy company, Ted has recently completed a contract with the National Endowment for Science, Technology and Arts (NESTA).  His particular interest on the Board is the educational impact of MLA East of England's work in the region, and developing appropriate knowledge management systems.

Guenever Pachent
Guenever Pachent is currently Service Director for Culture, Information, Inclusion and Learning in the Adult Care & Community Services Directorate of Suffolk County Council.  She has extensive working experience in areas of libraries, archives, museums and local government.  She is involved with the 2005/07 Cultural Pathfinders Programme in Suffolk - one of a dozen national projects - which links museums, libraries and archives to the wider arts and leisure sectors.

Susan Flood
Susan Flood is a County Archivist for Hertfordshire and Diocesan Archivist for the diocese of St Albans.  She is Chair of the East of England Regional Archives Council (EERAC) a body formed of both professional archivists and users of archives, on the Board she represents the views of the EERAC members and generally of the archive domain within the East of England region.

Jennifer Holland
Jennifer Holland is Head of Libraries and Information Services for Norfolk County Council. She is Chair of the Libraries and Information Services Advisory Panel (LISAP) a body formed of professionals representing the interests of individual library domains.  On the Board she represents the views of the EERAC members and generally of the library domain within the East of England region.

Gillian Barclay
Gillian Barclay is Learning and Heritage Services Manager at Peterborough City Council.  She represents the Regional Museums Group (RMG), the advisory body and peer support group for museums in the East of England.
