Learning

Learning
We are currently developing a regional action plan in response to the new MLA Learning & Skills Strategy 2008-11. The strategy focuses on:
      • Children and Young People
      • Families
      • Adult Learners.
MLA East of England is working with the hub museums and IWM
Duxford to develop comprehensive services to children and young people
We are working with museum, libraries and archives across the region to identify how they are already contributing to the Every Child Matters agenda and to explore the potential for future collaboration with key partners especially Local Authorities. Our work is based on a notion that every child should participate in cultural services in their locality
      • The Strategic Commissioning programmes funded through DCFS and DCMS supports museums and archives to deliver a high quality offer in a rapidly changing educational climate with particular focus on:
      • Core skills including child protection and ICT
        Extended services
      • Initial teacher training

Learning Links reciprocal placements have offered museums and archive staff the opportunity to develop their services for new users. Al museums and archives are offered an entry on our website for teaching and learning to signpost their services and link to current agendas. This is soon to be expanded to include other services.Find out more from www.cultureandschoolseast.org.uk

Learning Network

During 2007-08 MLA East of England worked with a regional ‘learning network’ of 11 organisations who wanted to actively develop their work and learning around planning for outcomes and demonstrating impact. The network explored the use of the generic learning outcomes within Inspiring Learning for All and the recently launched generic social outcomes. Adult, community and family learning report

Early in 2008, MLA East of England commissioned NIACE (National Institute of Adult Continuing Education) to research how key national strategies around adult, community and family learning were being implemented in the East of England and the opportunities for museums, libraries and archives to link in with this work.  The original intention of this work was to inform the development of a three-year MLA East of England Learning & Skills action plan. Although we will be unable to take forward the recommendations in their current form, the report is a useful resource for museums, libraries and archives who are interested in developing this work.
