Breathing Places 3 Small Grants Programme
Eligibility (as it applies in England)

The programme is open to applications from voluntary or community sector organisations; town and parish councils; schools, and statutory health bodies.  Applicants must have a UK bank account that requires at least two unrelated people to authorise each cheque or withdrawal.

Outcomes

Projects must meet at least two of the following outcomes (but preferably all three):

      • The natural environment of the breathing place is developed to encourage plant life and animals
      • People, in the local community make more and better use of the breathing place
      • People in the local community are more engaged in developing and maintaining the breathing place

Grants

We will make grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 to help fund specific projects and activities.  The total cost of the projects should not exceed £25,000.  We expect to award around 650 grants across the UK.  This will depend on the amound requested by applicants.

Timetable

The deadline for applicationsn is noon on 18 January 2008, and we hope to award grants in June 2008.  Successful applicants must start their projects by December 2008 and complete by June 2009.

Key Issues

Completeness - It is important to ensure that the application is complete and that applicants enclose the supporting documents that we need to see.  Applicants should go through the checklist on page 31 of the form very carefully.  We will not consider incomplete applications.
Demand for programme - we expect demand for the programme to be high, given that Breathing Places 2 was heavily subscribed.  It is very likely that the number of good, fundable applications that we receive will exceed the number of awards that we will be able to make.  For further information, including application forms and guidance, please refer to: http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk, or call the Breathing Places advice line on 0845 367 0610.
