Announcement by MLA Council - 20 February 2008

MLA Council has announced that it will cease funding all regional agencies including MLA East of England, by March 2009.  MLA Council intends that in all regions a small team, managed by MLA Council, will replace the regional agencies.  The exact nature of this team will not be clear until after March when the findings of a review into all cultural regional agencies will be announced.

Response from MLA East of England

Following this announcement we will be focussing hard on our planning for 2008/09 so that we can sustain the quality of our work in priority policy areas while managing the required transformation to a smaller organisation which is able to leave an expert legacy for the sector in the new regional cultural body that is expected to emerge following the Ministerial Review.

The implications of the announcement by MLA Council will be considered in more detail by the MLA East of England Board at their next board meeting in early April.

During this time of change our commitment to you is that the MLA East of England will

  • continue to deliver our existing work programme while we are developing the focus and detail of next year's plan
  • communicate regularly with you about changes we make and any implications for future work programmes.

Terry Turner
Chief Executive
MLA East of England
